New Update
WhatsApp Account

WhatsApp, the popular free messaging platform owned by Meta, has announced that one WhatsApp account can now be used on multiple smartphones. This feature has reportedly been “highly requested” by users, and users can now link their phone as one of up to four additional devices, which is the same as when one links with WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets and desktops. The update has begun to roll-out and will be available for users across the globe in the upcoming days.

“Thanks to some improvements in our multi-device technology, we are rolling out the ability to link a second phone (or third, or fourth) to your WhatsApp account.  And, of course, it’s all still protected by end-to-end encryption,” said Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp at Meta.

WhatsApp has announced that every phone linked to their messaging service now connects independently, providing users with enhanced end-to-end encryption for their personal messages, media, and calls. In addition, the platform will automatically log users out of all companion devices if their primary device remains inactive for an extended period, further bolstering their security measures.

Who Would the New Feature on WhatsApp Account on Multiple Phones Be Beneficial For?

Advertisment

The feature would be beneficial for all users according to the platform as it makes messaging easier and more convenient. This new feature would mean that users can switch between phones without needing to sign out, enabling them to pick up their conversations exactly where they left off. This feature could especially be useful for small business owners using WhatsApp Business as additional employees can respond to customer queries and messages directly from their phones, all under the same WhatsApp Business account. This feature is expected to make it easier for small businesses to manage their communications with customers, streamlining their operations and boosting overall efficiency.

How to Enable WhatsApp Account on Multiple Phones?

Users who wish to enable multiple accounts from one number will need to do the following:

  • Download WhatsApp from Play Store or App Store, click on agree and continue.
  • Users then need to tap on "More options" and select "Link to existing account."
  • A QR code will then appear on the screen, which users can scan using their primary phone to complete the linking process.
  • Open WhatsApp on the primary phone, and then for Android phones chose more options and then linked devices and link a device. As far as iPhones are considered, go to WhatsApp settings and then linked devices and link a device.
  • Users will then have to unlock their primary phones. Those with biometric authentication enabled on their device will simply have to follow the on-screen instructions. However, if biometric authentication is not enabled, users will be prompted to enter their phone's pin to unlock it.
  • Users will ten have to scan the companion phone QR code with their primary phone.
