The nationwide launch of Google AI Mode in Search is introducing to the Indian user the next era of Search. Declared by the CEO Sundar Pichai after what he described as an incredible response in Labs, the feature will fundamentally change the way people engage with Google Search and use the latest developments in artificial intelligence.
AI Mode is the latest in online searches with advanced AI capabilities provided by Google. It was first announced in June 2025, in the form of an experimental feature, in Search Labs, but soon gained attention over its speed, accuracy, and quality of answers. It is now becoming available to all users in India (initially in English only), without signing-up on Labs. Sundar Pichai wrote on X “After an incredible response in Labs, we’re starting to roll out AI Mode in Search to everyone in India (English to start). It’s a total reimagining of Search, and we’re excited for even more people to use it.”
Technologies behind AI mode
Gemini 2.5 AI Model
With the core of the AI Mode a variant of the LLM Gemini 2.5, which Google considers the state of the art, is used. This allows the system to comprehend and follow more than two to three times longer and more complex queries than the traditional search request.
Query Fan-Out Technique
When the question is complicated or more partisan, AI Mode takes a query fan-out. It will split a query posed by a user to smaller subtopics, then compute them in parallel and combine the outcomes to provide a complete answer. This parallel processing makes the responses quick and comprehensive as well as being contextual.
Multimodal Input
The interaction with AI Mode is not limited only to typing; it is possible to talk or share photos through Google Lens. Such multimodal capability enables a more natural and dynamic search experience.
Features
Google with its new AI Mode in Search presents a number of crucial features that are supposed to change the experience of using it. Now with an AI Mode tab appearing both in Search and the search bar of the Google app, one can shift to a more conversational type of search that is powered by AI and is separate to the classic search results. It allows users to pose a query up to twice (or three times) as long as was previously possible: users can submit specific queries (product comparisons, travel itineraries, step-by-step guides), and get focused, detailed results with a single search.
Artificial intelligence-based answers now contain useful links, additional pictures and make it possible to pose a follow-up question, thus helping the user acquire greater knowledge and allowing them to feel free to proceed with the conversation to obtain a more personalised response, making it a more interactive and productive process. The multimodal search is also perfectly enabled, and a user can find the right answers with the help of AI at a glance due to the possibility to submit a request by pictures, talk, or type a complex request quickly and without misunderstandings. Notably, AI Mode is not experimental anymore and all users in India can use it, and no special access or Labs sign-up is required, so more people can enjoy the opportunities of the new generation of search immediately.
Technical advantages for Indian users
The AI Mode on the Google Search browser is useful because it provides faster and complete results through the parallel processing and enhanced AI understanding by providing multi-faceted answers in seconds. The new technology might also lead to improved support of exploratory and learning requests where the user can explore further in an unfamiliar subject or schedule an expedition, and for product comparison, it can show increased and actionable information. Added accessibility is yet another major strength as voice and image different input modes tend to make it simpler among the user with varying needs or preference to locate what they are searching. Also, with an increased number of users who have already tried AI Mode, the models developed by Google constantly learn and develop, which means that searching results will only improve with time.
Future outlook
As Google introduces AI Mode in Search, it will establish a new paradigm of intelligent, contextual and conversational search in India. With the strongest AI and focused on real-life needs, this feature is sure to transform the process of information discovery and make it faster, smarter, and more intuitive to millions of users.
