ISRO Invites Applications for 2-week Course on Emerging Trends in Remote Sensing

ISRO, through its centre the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) in Dehradun, is offering a 2 week offline course on remote sensing for professionals and researchers. IIRS is a training and education institute setup to develop trained professionals in the field of remote sensing, geoinformatics and GPS technology for natural resources, environmental and disaster management. The course called “Emerging Trends in Remote Sensing and its Applications” will be conducted from 17 to 28 April 2023.

The course aims at introducing participants to the present and future potential that remote sensing holds as a technology, and also make them aware of the emerging trends in remote sensing and its applications. Participants will be given an overview of hyperspectral, SAR, LiDAR and UAV and also introduced to practical applications on the usage of this data. IIRS faculty will deliver the course through lectures, case studies, demonstrations and hands on exercises. 

What the ISRO Course on Remote Sensing Will Cover?

Participants of the course will get to experience a mix of theory, hands-on exercise and field exercises. Some of the topics that will be covered are as follows:

  • Hyperspectral remote sensing and data processing.
  • SAR, INSAR, POLSAR remote sensing and data processing.
  • LiDAR remote sensing and data processing.
  • UAV remote sensing and data processing

Who Can Take the ISRO Course on Remote Sensing?

According to the official course brochure, the program can be taken up by the following participants working in the field of remote sensing and satellite image processing and allied fields with working experience of minimum 2 years:

  • Faculty.
  • Scientists and researchers like junior research fellow, senior research fellow and research associates.

Important Details on the ISRO Course

Participants need to note that the course will cost Rs 12,000, which includes registration, field work and other course related charges. However, those who wish to stay in the IIRS hostel will have to pay Rs 5000 additionally. Those who wish to apply will have to submit applications before 12 March 2023 on the official website. In case applications are received in large numbers, IIRS will decide the criteria of admission for candidates.
