ISRO free online course, sponsored by the Indian Space Research Organisation, Department of Space, Government of India, is being offered to students yet again. ISRO has invited applications from students for a 10-day free online course called “Advances in Remote Sensing Techniques for Geological Applications”. The course, scheduled from 13 to 24 March 2023, is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) a centre of ISRO. Those who good attendance, and perform well in online examinations will receive certificates for the course, which will be based on 70% attendance and 40% in online examination.
What the ISRO Free Online Course Will Cover?
The course will cover the various aspects of remote sensing technology and its applications in geological problems. Some of the topics that will be covered are as follows:
- Overview of remote sensing and geographical information system applications in geosciences including the role of optical, thermal, microwave, and hyperspectral remote sensing in geological sciences.
- Subsidence, surface deformation and other geological applications, glacial dynamics or cryospheric studies, geo-environmental applications, mineral targeting and exploration, landslide initiation process mapping and modeling, integrated approach involving GNSS.
- Geodesy and geophysics in geosciences.
- Planetary exploration with special emphasis on ISRO missions using advance remote sensing techniques will be catered to.
All course study materials like lecture slides, video recorded lectures, open source software and handouts of important links and demonstrations, among others will be made available through e-class.
Who Can Take the ISRO Free Online Course?
Those who wish to take the course will need to have familiarisation with the basics of remote sensing and geographical information systems. Keeping this in mind the ISRO free online course would be most suitable for:
- Postgraduate or final year postgraduate student of geosciences.
- Scientific staff of central or state governments as well as faculty or researchers at universities and institutions can apply.
- Users receiving programs under CEC-UGC or CIET networks can also participate.
How to Enroll for the ISRO Free Online Course?
Those who wish to enrol for the course will have to forward applications through coordinators from their respective universities, institutions or centres. The coordinator will have to be identified by the respective organisations. The identified coordinator will register online their institute as the nodal center on the IIRS website. All the interested participants will then have to register online through registration page by selecting their organization as the nodal center. Since there are a limited number of seats, participants will be admitted on a first come first serve basis, says IIRS. Those who wish to apply for the course are advised to go through the course brochure for further information.
