IIT Madras Invites Applications for BS in Electronic Systems for Those Without JEE Scores: Important Details

IIT Madras has announced a new BS in Electronic Systems similar to the BS in data science, and applications will begin for students soon

IIT Madras recently announced a four-year online Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electronic Systems. The course is open to anybody who has completed class 12 with a Mathematics and Physics background. IIT Madras has stated that the intent of the course is to meet the significant, growing demand for skilled graduates in electronics and embedded manufacturing sector in India. In what we would be considered as a welcome move, JEE scores are not needed for the course, and admissions are possible through an in-built 4-week qualifier process.

Prof V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said: “There is a high demand for a skilled and knowledgeable workforce in the area of electronic systems. Keeping this in mind, the program has been designed in consultation with industry leaders in this domain. The graduates of this program will have strong fundamentals and industry-ready skills ensuring high employability.”

Important Details of the IIT Madras BS in Electronic Systems

While the content of the course would be delivered by IIT Madras faculty through the online mode, quizzes, laboratory sessions and examinations will be conducted in-person, says the institute. Other important details are as follows:

  • Applications for the first batch will open soon, and the closing date would be 20 June 2023.
  • The qualifier process would consist of four weeks of courses and assignments. 
  • Qualifier examinations will also be an in-person proctored examination conducted in more than 150 cities across the country and abroad as well
  • Those who get minimum required scores in weekly assignments in the four weeks will then proceed to write the qualifier exam based on the four weeks of content.
  • Those who get minimum required scores in the qualifier exam will get to continue with the program, while those who do not will have to reappear for the qualifier process.
  • Participants will get to exit the program at three levels namely the foundational level with a certificate, diploma level with a diploma or the BS degree level with a certificate.
  • The course can also be taken up by professionals who wish to reskill.
