The Awards Jury Process: A Consensus-Based Selection

Raman emphasized that while he couldn't disclose specific details due to confidentiality, the award selection process involved careful deliberation by a diverse jury panel consisting of industry and academic experts. The process began with a long list and a short list of nominees, followed by in-depth analysis before the jury met to discuss and finalize the winners. He noted that despite different perspectives, there was a strong consensus on the awardees, showcasing the credibility of the selection process.

Reflecting on his role as Jury Chair, he humorously mentioned that last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner automatically becomes the Jury Chair, meaning the current jury had to "suffer" his leadership.

A Lesson from the Past: The Evolution of India’s BPO Industry

Taking a nostalgic turn, Raman shared his early experiences in the BPO industry, which began taking shape in the 1980s. He recalled attending prestigious industry events as an outsider and learning valuable lessons—like how wearing a full-sleeved shirt was considered a mark of professionalism.

He highlighted a key turning point for the BPO sector when NASSCOM redefined IT-enabled services (ITES) as part of the IT industry. Initially treated as a separate sector, BPO was integrated into the IT domain to boost overall industry growth figures. This shift opened new opportunities for participation in IT and data science events, helping the BPO industry gain greater recognition.
