Is Covaxin Second Dose Unavailable? Citizens Get OTP Errors While Booking Slots on CoWIN

Citizens continue to get OTP errors while booking slots on CoWIN, Aarogya Setu and UMANG app for Covaxin second dose. The platforms display Generate OTP Failed and USRAUT0018 errors for a majority of citizens trying to book their slots for the second dose of Covaxin. While technical issues may be the reason for this, the problem has led to beneficiaries assuming and questioning if there was a shortage of Covaxin due to which these errors are coming up.

“Since yesterday afternoon, several people are unable to book their COVAXIN 2nd dose vaccine slots as CoWin website says "Generate OTP failed" and thus we are unable to log in. Helplines don't work. No technical team responds. We are losing out on precious time to get vaccinated. HELP,” said one such citizen.

Hundreds of others wrote to Dataquest saying they were specifically facing issues while trying to book slots on CoWIN for the Covaxin second dose. “I am also unable to book my second dose of Covaxin due to the error, OTP Failed. No support from 24*7 teams. I have been sitting and continuously trying since 3-4 hours just to get one slot from 5 pm. At 8 pm i got this error. I called +91-11-23978046 but no help from their end. Can you guys help me in fixing this issue,” asks Mayank Vishwakarma to Dataquest.

“Concerned that 2nd dose priority is only given to 45+ age group. People with 2nd dosage for Covaxin are struggling to get appointment in Gurgaon, barely any slots for Covaxin 2nd dose across Haryana. Only option is in Delhi where the priority for 2nd dose is for both 18+ and 45+. can you please prioritize 2nd Dose Covaxin for 18+ in Haryana as well and not just for 45+? There were many in 18+ group who took 1st jab in May for whom finding Covaxin 2nd jab is becoming nightmare in Gurgaon,” says Ratul.

Nevertheless, officials have clarified that there is no shortage of vaccines to various popular news media reports. The helpline numbers have also mentioned that this is a technical error on the CoWIN platform that should be fixed soon. “We are working on the technical issue, there should be a resolution soon,” said the helpline number. Citizens also need to note that this issue may be coming up for only Covaxin second dose beneficiaries as those who have taken Covishield are not eligible to receive vaccinations for three more months, and hence may not be trying to book slots at present. The dose interval has been increased for Covishield, but it remains the same for Covaxin. While Government officials are yet to respond to Dataquest queries, citizens have been requesting officials to fix the issue in case it is a technical error since the vaccination drive is the most important development taking place in the country at present.
