“As we’ve said, we’re responsibly investing in our company’s biggest priorities and the significant opportunities ahead,” said a Google spokesperson to the news portal. “To best position us for these opportunities, throughout the second half of 2023 and into 2024, a number of our teams made changes to become more efficient and work better, remove layers, and align their resources to their biggest product priorities. Through this, we’re simplifying our structures to give employees more opportunity to work on our most innovative and important advances and our biggest company priorities, while reducing bureaucracy and layers,” he further added.

The company has come across and clarified the fact that these layoffs are not being conducted company-wide. These decisions of reorganization are part of their business. Google has also said the employees affected by these layoffs can rejoin the company in some other roles.

At the very start of 2024, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai had warned its employees about the continuation of role eliminations throughout the year. Google’s parent company Alphabet has already reduced its headcount by 6% which makes nearly around 12000 employees in 2023.

And, now this continued layoff news tends to create a kind of distress among the Google employees regarding the future of their employability.
