ChatGPT has completely won the internet, and has now become a force to reckon with. The AI chatbot is not only able to provide accurate answers, but is also capable of writing poems, essays, stories and even complex codes. The chatter on ChatGPT being an alternative to Google is now at an all time high.

In fact, Paul Buchheit, the creator of Gmail says that Google is only two years away from total disruption. “Google may be only a year or two away from total disruption. AI will eliminate the Search Engine Result Page, which is where they make most of their money. Even if they catch up on AI, they can't fully deploy it without destroying the most valuable part of their business,” he shared recently.

He further went to add that the URL or search bar of the browser will get replaced with artificial intelligence, which would be capable of autocompleting users' thoughts or questions as they type it while also providing the best answer - which may be a link to a website or product. “The old search engine backend will be used by the AI to gather relevant information and links, which will then be summarized for the user. It's like asking a professional human researcher to do the work, except the AI will instantly do what would take many minutes for a human.”

He also made a comparison to how pre-internet businesses were killed by Google. “The Yellow Pages used to be a great business, but then Google got so good that everyone stopped using the yellow pages. AI will do the same thing to web search,” he said.

Will ChatGPT Kill Google?

When ChatGPT was asked this question, it responded saying: “No, ChatGPT is not capable of killing Google as it is only a language model and does not have the capability to harm or disrupt a company like Google. ChatGPT is a tool that can be used to improve natural language processing and understanding, but it is not a replacement for the wide range of products and services offered by Google. Additionally, Google is a large and well-established company with a diverse range of technologies, resources, and expertise, and it is unlikely that a single tool or product could eliminate it.”

While ChatGPT and Google both use advanced technology to process and understand language, they are not direct competitors as they serve different purposes and are used in different ways, added the chatbot. Nevertheless, when the response was regenerated, the AI chatbot said that both OpenAI and Google are active in the field of AI research and development, and their products may compete in certain specific areas.
