Zomato UPI is a significant step towards enhancing user experience by Gurgaon-based startup Zomato. Zomato the online food delivery platform had launched its own Unified Payments Interface(UPI) service for its user convenience as this new feature enables direct transactions between individuals and merchants.

The unified payment interface of Zomato launched in May was an experiment aimed to provide users with a seamless and hassle-free payment process. The system was activated in collaboration with ICICI Bank. By integrating this UPI system, Zomato users can enjoy direct transactions without switching to other payment apps. The feature also allowed them to send money to family and friends besides making payments to merchants for purchases.

But recently, the sign-up options for the interface have been disabled for new users for the past 3 to 4 weeks. It has suspended the feature for new users while still active for existing ones. It is estimated that the company may provide services to all its users very soon after incorporating the feedback received from its existing users. The payment interface for now is on a halt for new users but they may start to rollout them by the end of this month.

Conclusion

Users find the UPI service to be handy as it avoids the need to be redirected to additional UPI applications like Google Pay, Paytm, and PhonePe. Additionally, the KYC (know your customer) process, another preferred customer feature, is not used in this transaction.

Although the UPI services can be used by a selected group of users at present, it will be available for all in upcoming months.
