As a polyster yarn manufacturing
company, can you run us through some of the
href="http://dqindia.ciol.com/content/GreenIT/2008/108111001.asp">Green
initiatives you have undertaken. Are the initiatives only limited
to technology or is the company going Green overall?
Polygenta Technology Limited is an environment company by genesis has
taken a big leap towards
href="http://dqindia.ciol.com/content/GreenIT/2009/109020601.asp">Green
IT. We have implemented a breakthrough
href="http://dqindia.ciol.com/content/industrymarket/focus/2009/109040705.asp">innovation
in the field of polyester yarn manufacturing in an environment
friendly way. Incidentally even though we are a relatively new company,
we started rolling out our green IT initiatives just 11 months back. We
are targeting a very steep exponential growth to become 1 MT polyester
yarn manufacturing company in the next four years by growing
organically and inorganically.
We recently implemented SAP, with all modules and we have gone live
within a record time of 11 weeks. This implementation has become
a benchmark how orchestrated and coordinated efforts by both the
internal teams and partners (Accenture and Coconut) can yield promising
outcome. The strategy has been to put in best of the processes
and align business as per that rather than carrying in baggage of the
past making it suboptimal. We succeeded in our endeavor as a team.
Wipro has delivered and configured array of
href="http://dqindia.ciol.com/content/Indepth/2006/106112001.asp">SUN
blade servers connected to SUN SAN boxes. This makes SAP up
and running and be available in a failsafe mode. We are yet to
plan and work on BCP and DRP. Moving forward, we have also
laid out 1 km fiber backbone mixed with wireless LAN, supported by
strong MPLS,
firewalled by Fortinet Appliances, protected and monitored by McAfee
suite of solutions.
Aros sentry UPSes manages critical power loads of the plant and
outages while APC has delivered UPS supporting Green IT Power Strategy,
APW President racks optimizes AC, air flow, optimizes cooling and
thus power consumption.
Can you elaborate on your tie-up with
Microsoft for
href="http://dqindia.ciol.com/content/enterprise/datatech/2010/110012201.asp">Cloud
Computing. When did you go live and what were the teething troubles
during the deployment phase?
Another bold step towards Green IT, we have gone ahead on
cloud computing forging a win-win alliance with Microsoft connecting to
Microsoft Cloud to its Business Online Productivity Suite
( BPOS) , immediately after the BPOS launch in India by
Microsoft in Dec-Jan 2010. This was Polygentas most sought
after initiative on
href="http://dqindia.ciol.com/content/techtrenz/2009/109022103.asp">Unified
Communication supported by strong and proven technology
backbone for an effective team collaboration and decision making
that supports Polygentas sustainability and environmental friendliness
credentials .
Polygenta has gone live on MS BPOS on 13th Feb this year and perhaps
can achieve following Greet IT targets like reduction in carbon
footprint as it runs on Microsoft Cloud; BPOS supports telecommuting
aspect enabling people to be present on audio / video calls, for
instant decisions, interactions and collaborations resulting in more
productivity; no power, no in-house server, no air-conditioning
installation and therefore no carbon footprints ; no electronic waste
and yet auto-upgrades as part of offering. All these without
incurring capital investment on 4 servers ( Rs 15L approx)
licenses ( Rs 15 L approx ) Data center charges (Rs 12 L
approx ), bandwidth (Rs 5 L) and recurring maintenance
expense on all these YoY- had it gone in conventional manner any
company would have incurred this much for same size and scale. Moreover
we are connected to cutting edge technology ensuring application
availability to 99.99 % in an economical way.
Since BPOS runs on cloud therefore migration plan is very critical, one
has to plan every step and time its execution well to ensure seamless
transition. Fortunately we did manage to achieve that however small
operational issues are obvious, post migration. We have been able to
sort out all these working with Microsoft. The support model is
satisfactory.
What are some of the Green initiatives
you are looking to undertake this year?
For this year we are looking to implement
href="http://dqindia.ciol.com/content/dqtop20_09/BPO/2009/109072541.asp">Business
Intelligence, HRIS ( HR Information Systems ), EHS (
Environment Health and Safety ) with BI being the first to be taken up
on priority. We are in the process of evaluation of cloud
offering on BI from top BI players.
