CMS-01, which is the 42nd communication satellite of India, has been developed to provide services in the Extended-C Band of the frequency spectrum whose coverage areas include the Indian mainland, Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands. The satellite will provide services like tele-education, tele-medicine, disaster management support and satellite Internet access, according to Wikipedia.

The CMS-01 communication satellite will reportedly replace the aged GSAT-12satellite, which was launched onboard the PSLV-XL C-17 from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre on 15 July 2011 by an all-women core team.
