Could you tell us more about wap.justdial.com?
We have recently launched a local search engine on mobile, which is
primarily an extension of our search services provided on the Internet. It is an
open search application that gives users the liberty to define their search, and
also allow consumers to search for any local information by categorizing the
query into the company/name or product/service, giving the user extremely
relevant and tailored results.
Why did you not launch SMS service considering the GPRS
penetration in India is considerably low?
Although we, on our part, are ready with SMS service but the delay is coming
from some of the operators we are in touch with, due to the shift of four-digit
short code to five-digits as per the directions from DoT. Our SMS short code is
53999.
Will the service be available in all cities or restricted to a
few initially?
This facility is accessible on any handset that is GPRS enabled and is not
city restricted thereby implying that the users can access it from anywhere. The
users can also access information through our site for forty cities across
India.
Do you think mobile search engine service could work in a low
bandwidth environment like India?
Definitely, the technology used helps the page load in 5-10 seconds even in
low bandwidth conditions. And, whats more, it can even be accessed on low-end
GPRS enabled handsets. Apart from saving time, the search is designed in such a
manner that all navigation is click through driven and there is no drop down
menus. The application is also Geo Code ready; if a Geo Code is fed, it can
detect and throw results accordingly, pertaining to those Geo Code areas. The
technology we have use also detects the device used and redirects you to http://wap.justdial.com
even if you type www.justdial.com on your
mobile.
