BlackBerrys is a prominent player in men's apparel business in India. It
plans to foray into other apparel areas in a bid to become a complete family
fashion brand. To meet the growing demand, the clothing giant decided to double
its production by making fresh investments. In addition to the new plant in
Gurgaon, it is upgrading its old factory by almost doubling the production
capacity.
Need for ERP
To manage multiple product lines, Mohan Clothing felt the need for an
integrated IT system. Plus it was facing a number of problems too:
- Not able to meet order fulfillment deadlines.
- Unable to manage the disparity in orders prioritization.
- Unable to do advance planning for raw materials with higher lead times.
- Unable to reschedule production capacity to accommodate unexpected yet
critical orders. - Could not do online review and control of work in progress.
- Could not keep track of accounts receivables and credit limit at the
vendor level.
Having identified the key pain areas, the company decided to tackle the issue
from an IT perspective, and hence, opted for an ERP from Ramco Systems.
Solution
Mohan Clothing deployed the discrete production system of Ramco enterprise
suite, including HR and maintenance modules. A unique feature of the solution
was the development of a new “sampling module” that was integrated with the
base product. Other features included:
Order forecasting: Performance
indicators relevant to respective business divisions such as order location,
shipping location, regions, and time period.
Production forecasting: Monthly
plan split into weekly and quarterly buckets. This bucket-wise planning enhances
the resource and capacity allocation process.
Sales orders: Allows to carry out
effectively the critical activities that come on receipt of a customer order.
Unplanned orders: This helps
Mohan Clothing accommodate unplanned orders into its production schedule.
Manufacturing/capacity resource planning: It
broadly deals with utilizing the plant capacity and available resources in an
optimal manner to effectively cater to the demand.
Other modules deployed include scheduling and rescheduling of orders, online
work-in-progress review, and tracking accounts receivables and credit limits.
Benefits
By implementing the ERP, Mohan Clothing expects the following benefits:
-
Accurate sales forecast and sales cycle automation.
-
Efficient and effective warehouse management.
-
Automated sampling process and efficient inventory management.
Says Nitin Mohan, director, Mohan Clothing, “The ERP by Ramco has a great
degree of fitment in addressing our specific business needs. Indian localization
is also good.”
