Oracle has announced a partnership with the West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited (WEBEL) to train 15,000 students and professionals in West Bengal by 2029. This state government initiative aims to modernise the local workforce by providing specialised instruction in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data science.
The collaboration focuses on increasing employability within the state. Oracle University will provide the curriculum and certification pathways, ensuring that the training meets global industry standards.
Focus on future-ready skills
The program addresses the growing demand for technical expertise in the regional economy. According to Babul Supriyo, Minister-in-Charge of the Department of IT and Electronics for West Bengal, the government intends to empower the next generation of technologists through research, development, and consulting services.
Shailender Kumar, Senior Vice President at Oracle India, stated that combining Oracle’s curriculum with WEBEL’s local reach provides a pathway for youth to contribute to regional economic growth. The initiative intends to create a talent pool that can support India’s expanding digital infrastructure.
Program structure and curriculum
The training will be delivered through Oracle MyLearn, a digital platform used globally for technology education. Key components of the program include:
Duration: Each learner receives more than 200 hours of training over three years.
Cost: The program is free for eligible students and professionals in West Bengal.
Technical Domains: Training covers Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), OCI Generative AI, OCI Data Science, Oracle APEX, and OCI Security.
Certification: Learners can earn professional-level certifications that are recognised by global employers.
Expanding India’s digital capacity
Oracle University has already trained over 3.1 million certified professionals worldwide. By focusing on West Bengal, the company is supporting the broader goal of building a decentralised tech ecosystem in India.
The move toward "Private AI" and localised cloud infrastructure requires a workforce that understands both the software and the security guardrails of modern data environments. This initiative provides the foundational training necessary for West Bengal to transition into a high-value tech hub.
