UP Government Implements 4% DA Hike for State Employees in Line with 7th Pay Commission

With the 4% DA increase, state employees earn 46% of their basic wage as dearness allowance according to the UP Government

The Uttar Pradesh government has proposed a 4% raise in the dearness allowance (DA) for all employees, teachers, and pensioners, bringing festive happiness to lakhs of state employees. In addition, non-gazetted personnel would earn a bonus equivalent to 30-day payments, up to a maximum of Rs 7,000.

DA has risen to 45%

The chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, stated, "All state employees, aided educational and technical institutions, municipal corporations, UGC employees, departmental officers, and pensioners contributing to Uttar Pradesh will receive a dearness allowance of 46% of the basic salary." The additional financial burden on the state exchequer from the DA hike, arrears, and bonus will be about Rs 2,091 crore (Rs 1,069 crore on DA and Rs 1,022 crore on bonus).

The state government, on the other hand, has stated that it is willing to incur an additional recurring cost of Rs 314 crore to ensure that the higher bonus reaches employees and pensioners.

How Much Will the Salary Increase Be?

With the 4% DA increase, state employees earn 46% of their basic wage as DA. In his post, the UP chief minister wrote, "Dearness allowance, announced at the rate of 46 percent of the basic salary, will be disbursed to all state employees, aided educational and technical educational institutions, urban bodies, UGC employees, work-charged employees, and pensioners who are contributing to the progress of Uttar Pradesh," Yogi Adityanath said.

"Similarly, it has been decided to provide a bonus equal to 30 days' emoluments (with a maximum limit of Rs 7,000) to all state employees (non-gazetted)/work-charged employees, teachers, non-teaching staff, and daily wage workers," Yogi said in a press release. Previously, on 15 May, the Yogi government doubled the dearness allowance for state employees. Now, before Diwali, these state employees will receive a DA rise, which will take effect on 1 January 2023.
