Uttarakhand is all set to computerize its public distribution system as the government plans to give people a smart ration card in February next year. Recently the Uttarakhand government took a decision to computerize Food and Civil Supplies Department. The new system is expected to bring efficiency into the system minimizing the leakages and taking the ration to the masses in a fair and transparent manner.
According to reports, Chief Secretary Alok Kumar Jain stressed on the need to complete the first phase of work by February, 2013. To further the process, the heads of district administration will verify the smart ration cards. It is learnt that all information and data related to supply inspectors, food commissioners, ration shops, depots and ration card holders in different districts have been stored into the systems.
Also, the next phase will witness the entire supply chain going online. Adhaar card is expected to play a key role in the PDS. Many states are expected to follow the suite.
