About the ISRO Bhuvan Portal

Bhuvan is a Geoportal platform that hosts a wide range of services spanning visualization of satellite data, thematic maps, query and analysis, free data downloads and products, near real-time disaster services, apps for crowdsourcing, and diverse geospatial applications. It also supports the ministries with e-Governance applications. Bhuvan offers detailed imagery of Indian locations compared to other Virtual Globe Software, with spatial resolutions ranging up to 1 metre.

Bhuvan has since its inception in 2009 enabled Indian government to host public geospatial data as Information layers for visualisation and public consumption. Examples of the types of geospatial layers include toll information system for the National Highways Authority of India, islands information system for the Ministry of Home Affairs, and cultural heritage sites for Ministry of Culture among others. The information for the platform is obtained from the government of India sources or through Crowdsourcing.
