Twitter is currently testing a feature called Fleets, which is similar to the Instagram Story or WhatsApp Status. The feature has currently gone live on Twitter for the users of the platform in India. “We’re testing a new feature called Fleets! Fleets are for sharing fleeting thoughts and disappear in 24 hours,” says Twitter.
“We built this to make it easier for you to express yourself in new ways that feel less permanent and more casual than tweeting,” adds Twitter in its Fleet.
Features of the Twitter Fleets
Users who wish to use this feature can post a picture or videos with a text on top, or even message and emojis through their profile. Followers of the Twitter profile will be able to see the Fleet at the top of their home timeline. Furthermore, anyone who is allowed to see the full profile can see the Fleet that has been posted.
Fleets can only be viewed, and cannot be liked, retweeted or replied to. However, with profiles that allow direct messaging, the Fleet feature can receive replies, and for profiles that do not allow DMs only followers will be able to reply. Users will also be able to see who viewed their Fleet. Those who have used the feature can also give a feedback through #FleetsFeedback.
