Twitter, an American microblogging and social networking company, has said that its employees can work-from-home forever if they wish to. Jennifer Christie, the lead of the People Team, Twitter said through a blog post “So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen. If not, our offices will be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions, when we feel it’s safe to return.”

The social networking giant also added that they were one of the first companies to initiate the work-from-home after the COVID-19 pandemic mandated people to stay at home to ensure social distancing. Twitter also adds that since their employees remain their top priority they were mulling on the following options in the months to come:

  1. Twitter would decide if they want to open their offices or not, and employees can decide whether they want to work-from-home or go to the office.
  2. Offices will not be reopened before September 2020, and whenever they do, the transition to work-from-office would be very gradual and careful.
  3. The company also added in it’s blog that there would be no business travel prior to September and in-person company events for the rest of the year.

Twitter on an earlier date had also mentioned that although their contractors, vendors, and hourly workers were not able to perform their duties from home, the company was still continuing to pay their labor costs to cover standard working hours while work-from-home guidance and/or travel restrictions related to their assigned office was in effect.
