The ongoing GITEX Global 2022 is turning out to be a massive success. The event has managed to attract over 1,40,000 people from 170 countries from across the world. Innovators and new-age entrepreneurs from across the world have been showcasing their products at this large scale event. However, one of the most inspirational aspects of GITEX is that this technology event, which is of a mammoth proportion, has a woman at the helm of it. Trixie LohMirmand, executive vice president, events management, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has been at the core of the GITEX event that is being hosted successfully from the past three years. Trixie has been with DWTC for nearly two decades, and has has almost thirty years of experience in the global events industry.

Idea Behind Hosting GITEX Global

Trixie says that a platform like GITEX serves the purpose of being a super connector. “The event is all about building relationships in this ever evolving ecosystem. It's about learning about the next new technology that's coming on. It is also about empowering, and talent capital development. So in order to do that, and to build a digital economy, you will need to bring people from everywhere in the world - get the experts, or the best minds from across every business. This is why GITEX has to be global. If you're not going to be global, you will not be able to have the International Outreach,” she said to Dataquest.

Expansion Plans for GITEX

GITEX, which was being hosted in Dubai from the past three years, will now also be held in Morocco, Africa. When asked about the plans of expanding GITEX to other geographies, Trixie said: “KAOUN International is the overseas event organizing company of Dubai that has been entrusted with the responsibility of gauging how we can support the different industries that we serve, and take them to new markets all over the world. GITEX Africa that we launched today is just the first of the many ventures to come. We will be building a lot of hubs across the world, in order for our industry, ecosystem and communities to be able to exploit the opportunities from anywhere and everywhere. India has always been our number one target market in terms of visitors coming in, companies exhibiting and we have a lot of requests from the ecosystem and the communities out there, especially from this edition of GITEX. We are certainly interested to explore the opportunities needed to help the two countries coordinate and integrate in terms of communities in technology and beyond for sure.”

Message for Young Women Hoping to Become Leaders of Tomorrow

When questioned about how more women can tread their way to leadership, Trixie said: “There are a lot of talented people all around us. The only differentiator between some talent being more visible than the others is because they dare to take the opportunity and give it their everything. The point I’m trying to make is that the competitive instincts in yourself and the talent needs to be extraordinary. You must be able to find opportunities and seize it. And once you have that opportunity, you must say that this is the best that I can make out of my choice. And anybody that has the instinct, drive and relentlessness will be outstanding in everything that they do.”
