On
the significance of the five-millionth PC landmark for India
The fact that we have crossed five million PCs has a lot to do with India
clearly emerging as the software and services center for the world. There’s a
huge interest in information technology in India and we have a large number of
people, trained in that space. I think the PC is extremely significant in India
because it is clearly the preferred appliance today to access information, be it
from home or from office.
On the price barriers
Price is certainly one of the factors from the Indian perspective as far as
the PC sales are concerned. We need to look at the spending power of the people.
One of the driving forces for such sales figures is that the PC is now becoming
affordable. I think every country has its threshold; so once you break that
threshold, you would see a significant increase in the PC penetration. And that
holds true for India as well. We can be delighted about the rate at which prices
have been dropping.
