At its recent 'Magical Mobility Launch' event in Hong Kong, HP added five
consumer notebooks, two commercial notebooks, two handhelds, and two wireless
digital projectors to its portfolio. In 2006, HP will continue to build upon its
worldwide mobility initiative launched last year. The company had unveiled a
slew of new mobility products, services, solutions, and alliances, as it kicked
off a worldwide mobility initiative, declaring 2005 as the 'Year for
Mobility'.

With the growing traction towards 'anytime, anywhere access' among both
the enterprise and consumer market segments, vendors in the last 1-2 years, have
been increasingly making their strategies around mobility, in an effort to
partake a share of this growing pie. The new line-up is targeted at
strengthening HP's position in the fast growing mobility space. According to
See Chin-Teik, vice president of Consumer Products and Mobile Business Group, HP
Personal Systems Group, Asia Pacific and Japan, HP is uniquely anchored in the
mobility market to realize the vision of a seamless web where mobile consumers
work and play effortlessly. “HP's unrivalled expertise spans across the
entire mobility spectrum from devices, servers, and infrastructure, to software
and services, offering consumers a superior mobile experience,” he added.

One of the key highlights was the launch of the first Designed In Asia For
Asia (DIAFA) product for the year 2006, the HP iPAQ rw6800 Multimedia Messenger.
The DIAFA initiative is targeted at bringing out products, which are
specifically designed, developed, and manufactured to meet the unique
requirements of the Asian markets. According to Chin-Teik, “The DIAFA
initiative helps us focus on innovation so as to create products that meet the
unique needs of Asian customers. Our customers have shown us that the unique
DIAFA products work for them. DIAFA products are one of the key contributors to
the AP PSG business.”
Highlighting some key trends in the handheld segment, Chin-Teik said that
though the traditional pen-based PDA market will continue to exist for the time
being, it will eventually be a small market over the next few years as the focus
will be primarily be on the smart phone devices.
