The soon-to-be launched BlackBerry Q10 series will also be hosting the Skype app from Microsoft. This was announced by BlackBerry which is planning to launch its new Q10 smartphone in Canada on May 1 and end-May in the US. The Skype app would be available from the launch day of Q10.
The Skype service was recently bought over by Microsoft and is bundled or available standalone. The web-chat service is free and has been available with other mobile operating systems such as Android and devices supporting it.
The recently and already launched BB Z10 which garnered a fairly good response and helped generate better results for BlackBerry in Q4, does not have the Skype app yet and will be supporting it after a software upgrade soon, sources said.
This will help BlackBerry weather the flak it has been receiving for not supporting some popular apps such as those of Netflix, Instagram etc as yet.
