It was a year of landmarks at Texas Instruments India. In a tough
environment, it grew revenues by 55% even as employee strength increased by 14%.
This, however, is internal revenue as TI India is a wholly owned subsidiary and
all its revenues come through internal billing to its parent. The year 2002-03
was marked by a slew of new products that came out of this Bangalore-based
center. This included, among others, a digital media processor for high-end
multimedia applications–the DM642–and the AR7 chip, an ADSL router-on-a-chip
that was almost wholly developed at the Bangalore center. It is expected to be
in production by the third quarter of 2003. As if to reiterate the importance of
the India center, CEO Tom Engibous came visiting in October 2002. In other
developments during the year, TI started working in the area of telematics and
increased focus on W-LAN, DSL and GPRS.
