Even though Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technologies are greatly assisting many people, they are also steadily eliminating users' jobs. According to a World Economic Forum (WEF) report, innovative technologies like artificial intelligence will threaten jobs like bank tellers, cashiers, and data entry clerks. Within the next five years, these positions might become extinct. The information is based on a survey of 803 businesses that intend to use big data, cloud computing, and AI technologies in the foreseeable future.
With COVID-19, geopolitical and economic changes, and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and other technologies, there is now a risk that this uncertainty will increase for people worldwide, according to Saadia Zahidi, managing director of the World Economic Forum.
List of jobs that are vulnerable and may disappear due to artificial intelligence
- Since online banking gained worldwide traction, it has negatively affected many bank branches, rendering them useless. This has resulted in the closure of banks, jeopardising the careers of bank tellers and related clerks. According to the report, a 40 percent reduction in these positions may be observed before the end of this decade.
- Similar to how automation, sensing technologies, and online services are growing in popularity, they are also reducing the demand for data entry workers, cashier and ticket office clerks, and postal service clerks, according to the report. According to the source, almost a third of these roles may disappear in the following five years.
- "Regarding largest total employment losses, data clerks fare the worst, with 8 million job losses anticipated within five years. Administrative and executive secretaries, accounting, bookkeeping, and patrol clerks follow data clerks. According to the Future of Jobs 2023 research, these three professions account for more than half of all predicted job losses.
Ten jobs predicted to expand in the upcoming years
Apart from jobs lost due to artificial intelligence, the top 10 jobs that will grow over the next five years were also listed in the research.
- "With more than 40% growth anticipated in the upcoming five years, autonomous and electric vehicle specialists are in high demand, leading the list of most in-demand positions for 2023. According to the report, environmental protection experts, with an anticipated 35% increase over the same period, would come closely behind with only slightly less job growth.
- Roles like specialists, fintech engineers, and many analytic functions - including business, information security, and data - together with data scientists may experience growth rates of more than 30%. Additionally, it is predicted that between 2023 and 2027, 2 million new jobs will be created in industries including heavy truck and bus driving, teaching vocational education, and mechanics and machinery repair.
