Mobility Unlimited
Apple has recently previewed the much awaited iPhone OS 4 software and
released a beta version of the software to the iPhone Developer Program members.
iPhone OS 4 is the fourth major release and Apple claims it as the worlds most
advanced mobile operating system. According to Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple, "Were
delivering over hundred new features, including multitasking, folders, a unified
inbox, deeper enterprise support, and an iPhone version of our iBooks reader and
online iBookstore." With this new OS, Apple is taking multitasking to new
levels.
For instance, iPhone OS 4s multitasking offers users a new way to quickly
move between apps and provides developers seven new multitasking services to
easily add multitasking features to their apps. These services include
audio-apps like Pandora that can play music in the background and VoIP apps.
Interestingly VoIP apps can receive a VoIP call even when the iPhone is in the
sleep mode or the user is running other apps.
Anything Apple does with iPhone garners global attention. A mobile OS getting
so much attention is really amazing. May be it is because of the capabilities of
the OS. For instance, Apple says iPhone OS 4 delivers the best mail experience
on a mobile phone with its new unified inbox, allowing users to see messages
from all their email accounts displayed together in a single inbox. With just a
few taps, users can quickly switch between inboxes to see messages from any
single account. In addition, users can now thread their messages by
conversation, making it easier to stay on top of the email discussions as well
as open email attachments with compatible apps from the App Store. Another
innovative feature is iAd, Apples new mobile advertising platform, that
combines the emotion of TV ads with the interactivity of web ads. This is an
innovative feature because with the existing technologies today, when users
click on mobile ads they are mostly taken out of their app to a web browser,
which loads the advertisers webpage.
Revolutionary Imaging
GE has launched a pocket-sized ultrasound scan, easy-to-use device that
enables physicians to provide more rapid diagnoses by enhancing the physical
exam. Recently, GE Healthcare announced the availability of Vscan, a new
pocket-sized visualization tool developed to provide physicians with imaging
capabilities at the point-of-care. Roughly the size of a smartphone, Vscan
houses powerful, ultra-smart ultrasound technology that provides clinicians with
an immediate, non-invasive method to help secure visual information about what
is happening inside the body. Vscan is portable and can easily be taken from one
room to another and can be used in any clinical, hospital or primary healthcare
setting. Paramedics and doctors can also remotely transmit the images and upload
to a location. This is a great feature, especially in the case of accidents when
the victims internal injuries need to be immediately diagnosed. Paramedics can
do the scanning in the ambulance itself and transmit it to the hospital for
analysis and when the patient arrives, the physician already knows about the
extent of the injuries, hence can provide faster medical care.
