The FC Kohli Center on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) will be based in the IIIT Hyderabad campus and will act as an umbrella organization at the institute to both strengthen the existing groups and facilitate new activities in related areas. The new center will also act as a force multiplier in attracting projects and funding from other entities in the government and industry sectors, coordinate research in related domains across different centers of IIIT Hyderabad, as well as in the institute’s research collaboration with other academic institutions in the country.

“The Kohli Center on Intelligent Systems will play an important role to coordinate and energize education and research in this critical area at the institute. This will be by intensifying the research done at the institute in these areas and through joint activities involving other academic institutions as well as research labs in the government and industry,” said P J Narayanan, Director, IIIT Hyderabad. “KCIS will help in imparting high-quality training to bachelors, masters, and doctoral students. The vigorous research at KCIS will have the potential to impact the society deeply through forefront research, innovative products, and start-ups.”

“Kohli’s pioneering role in the Indian IT industry is very well documented and TCS is delighted to partner with a world-class institute like IIIT Hyderabad to establish a new research facility in his honor. The new KCIS will carry out high impact research in Intelligent Systems, which is a critical area for carrying out sustainable innovation in topics like natural language processing, robotics and cognitive sciences,” said N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services.

Apart from high quality research, the KCIS will focus on entrepreneurship promotion in the Intelligent Systems area as start-up companies are the best means to transform the research in the academic labs for the benefit of the society at large.

KCIS will have a distinct identity within IIIT Hyderabad. It will be based in Himalaya Block B with 60,000 sqft of built up area for research related activities.
