TCS recently announced that it has processed 6.7 lakh passport applications in Maharashtra last year. It also added that about five lakh passports were already issued. TCS became a part of the picture after the Ministry of External Affairs decided to take its services for passport issuing work in the state.
According to a statement released by the company, it is said that since the opening of the services to the public in the first half of 2012, Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) in Maharashtra in just about a year have processed 6.7 lakh applications, of which close to 5 lakh passports have already been issued. There are four regional passport offices and seven PSKs in the state.
There has been a notable increase in the volume of passport applications processed in Maharashtra. Apart from that there have been efforts made to fasten the process further by making the police verification faster.
