SWAYAM Offers Free Online Course on Cyber Security, Sessions Begin on 1 June

SWAYAM has invited students to take a free online course on cyber security that can be especially beneficial for undergraduate students

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development’s SWAYAM platform has invited students to take a free online course on cyber security. While anyone who is interested can take the course, it can be especially beneficial for undergraduate students. The course aims at educating learners on the latest trends in the rise in malicious attacks on digital devices and software systems.

Who will Conduct the SWAYAM Online Course on Cyber Security?

The course will be conducted by Dr. Jeetendra Pande who is an Assistant Director (Research) and Assistant Professor (Computer Science) at Uttarakhand Open University, Haldwani. Dr. Pande has worked in the areas component-based software development and cyber security, and has over 9 research papers in International Journals, 12 papers in conference proceedings and refereed books, says the SWAYAM website.

What Does the Online Course on Cyber Security Cover?

The 12-week long course that starts on 1 June 2020 aims at generating and enhancing awareness about cyber security challenges, concepts of cyber security and cyber ethics among learners. SWAYAM says that this course is in line with the directions of UGC to introduce an elementary course in cyber security at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across all the Indian universities or institutions.

The course content consists of recorded videos, which are based on the syllabus designed by the experts, and the videos and text material can be downloaded by students for later use. The students will also be allowed to clarify their doubts with the instructor after each lecture. Various aspects of cyber security such as: choosing the best browser according to the requirement and email security, guidelines for secure password and wi-fi security, smartphone security guidelines, cyber security initiatives in India, social engineering, and related topics will be covered over 12 weeks.

How to Get Certificate after the Online Course on Cyber Security is Completed?

While taking the course is free, students who wish to receive a certificate of participation from SWAYAM may have to take an examination and pay a nominal fee. There will be two components for evaluation for providing the course certificate, which are an internal assessment of 20 marks and a proctored examination for 80 marks.
