In a major setback to Satyam founder, Ramalinga Raju, who is in jail in
connection with the multi-crore financial scandal, the Supreme Court has
dismissed his bail application. The bench, headed by Chief Justice KG
Balakrishnan, which heard the bail application, has observed that "when serious
crimes are committed, people are bound to be in jail". In the appeal Raju said
that he was suffering from serious cardiac and other health problems and was
willing to abide by any conditions imposed by the apex court for his release.
Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had rejected his bail application.
Meanwhile, the CBI probing the multi-crore fraud, alleged doctors were
prolonging the treatment of Raju only to delay the trial in the case. It is
being reported that Raju is suffering from Hepatitis-C and is currently
undergoing treatment at the Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
