It has been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for Sun in the last three years.
After a heady fiscal 2001–when it grew by over a 100%–it saw revenues
plummet in fiscal 2002. In 2002-03, the company saw the topline grow again
across most segments and services, and storage revenues emerged as new
independent business lines.

The catch–while server and desktop revenues did grow, they’re still below
fiscal 2001 levels. The telecom segment drove much of the growth. Sales to this
segment came not only through Sun and its traditional partners, but also through
switch manufacturers Lucent and Motorola. At Sun, financial services continue to
contribute, but growth in that vertical seems to be slowing. The crowning glory
was CEO Scott McNealy’s first-ever visit to India during the fiscal.
