Secures good growth in the Linux server market in India with its new line of x86 servers

In the UNIX space, Sun continued to hold its sway with 60% share in unit

terms. The focus areas over the year revolved around the banking and telecom

verticals. It secured large mandates for server deployments from the Punjab

National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Andhra Bank, Karnataka Bank, South

India Bank, and SBI. Other major segments where Sun made significant in-roads

were the education and research with its Opteron based systems. IIT Kanpur's

deployment of the largest Opteron cluster was significant not just for Sun, but

also from the perspective of the Indian academic and research communities.

Meanwhile, for the ongoing year, Sun is bullish about the Oil and Energy sector,

which is expected to spend on IT aggressively. On the Linux front, it forayed

the market with its new line of servers through its Sunfire series.
