According
to preliminary data from IDC’s research and advisory service, the
Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan) bio-IT market will increase at a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of 55% to reach $3.39 billion by 2006. Moreover,
IDC estimates that $50 billion will be injected into the Asia-Pacific life
science markets from both public and private sources over the next few
years. The race is clearly on among APAC countries, especially as they
seek to position themselves as genuine global bio-environments. The major
focus is being centered on gene therapy, agri-sciences, bioinformatics,
genomics and proteomics.
Despite
the dire worldwide and regional economic situation, growth opportunities
for system management software can still be found within the Asia-Pacific
region. The market is expected to treble in the next five years. The key
driver would be that management tools are becoming ‘Web-enabled’ to
take advantage of the platform-independent access and communication
capabilities resulting from Web technology.
Fueled
by the current uncertain and difficult global economy, organizations need
to better understand and plan their business, based on sound comprehensive
analysis of corporate information, in order to respond quickly to market
dynamics. Over the 2001-2006 forecast period, the outlook for the
Asia-Pacific BI solutions market is optimistic, with steady growth
expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 23%–to reach $3.3
billion in 2006.
