After a jump from #42 to #18 in the DQ listings last year, things turned awry
for this Mumbai-based company in 2002-03. A reckless acquisition exercise–which
saw a hefty amount being paid for a pure play e-biz company–added to the
technology downturn to pile up the woes, translating into a Rs 100-crore debt.
The workforce was reduced to 400, from 1,800 earlier. Revenues fell by 69.5% to
Rs 237 crore, against the previous year’s Rs 780 crore.
