Shyamanuja Das, notable B2B technology editor, research scholar and culture enthusiast, passed away on 28 December 2023 due to a prolonged illness. Das had been an integral part of the media industry for nearly three decades, and has made immense contributions to the field. Das was suffering with motor neuron disease (MND). As a professional, he spent over 80% of his time at work reporting, writing and analyzing business technology and associated business. His associates remember him as being very passionate about ITeS sector.

He was associated with CyberMedia from 1994 to 2012, and was a pertinent personality responsible for brands such as Dataquest and VoicenData. He started his career as a journalist with Voicendata where he worked on numerous research-based content, conceptualizing and running two annual issues, creating two annual events, leading the transformation of the magazine from an enterprise-focused product to a service-provider focused product, and building teams.

“As a professional, I have spent more than 80% of my work life reporting, writing and analyzing business technology and associated business. Among other things, was the editor of Dataquest, India’s first biztech magazine; have been a jury member in many industry and govt awards including Digital India Awards,” says his profile on LinkedIN. He also lead the BPO Orbit initiative at CyberMedia as well where he focused on the Indian offshore BPO industry and managed it before it was repositioned and launched as Global Services.

He then moved on to work with various other companies such as JuxtConsult, DataJourno, Odias in Machine Learning and his last stint was with 9.9 Group as the editorial director. He was the founder of DataJourno, which is a not-for-profit community that works towards popularizing data journalism among practicing journalists and journalism students and the co-founder at Odias in Machine Learning.

The CIO Klub issued a statement mourning the loss of Das "The CIO Club mourns the loss of such a visionary and influential leader. His contributions to the industry and journalistic excellence have left an inedible mark. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace."
