SGI, the troubled maker of the computer workstations, will complete the
spin-off to shareholders of its 65% interest in MIPS Technologies. Shareholders
will receive 0.135 MIPS share for each Silicon Graphics share on June 20.
SGI, based in Mountain View, California, has focussed on computers for
scientific applications as its rivals such as Hewlett-Packard invaded the market
for high-powered machines used in animation and graphic design. The company has
sold some units, and is betting hat new product introductions will boost
revenues.
