Motherboards, digital
photocopiers and inkjet printers are imported as Completely Built Units.
Due to non-availability of the breakdown of the bill of materials for
semiconductor components for these products, an average semiconductor
content for these products as a percentage of the cost of the product was
taken as a proxy for calculation of the Total Market. However, it is not
mentioned in the above Total Market table for the reason given above.
In the semiconductors Total Market,
Microprocessors and DSPs have emerged as leading semiconductor product
categories, as the market for desktop and mobile phones is expanding at a
faster rate. ASICs and Memory are other major products in the
semiconductors Total Market in 2004 and 2005 |

In the semiconductor Total Available
Market, Microprocessors followed by memory and discretes have emerged as
the leading semiconductor products in the country. Among the smaller
segments, the DSP and microcontrollers will grow at a faster rate in the
forecast period than other products as manufacturing in key end user
applications such as wireless equipment grows during the forecast period |

The communication segment has the largest
share of the Total Market for semiconductors. The share of the
communications segment would continue to increase as the mobile phone
market and the wireless equipment market expands rapidly. Share of the
rest of the segments such as IT and consumer will decline as the
communications segment expands its share in the semiconductor Total
Market. |
