Scanning Traffic Woes

Goodlass Nerolac Paints, country's second

largest paint company has a group turnover of more than Rs 1000 crore. The

company has four manufacturing units all over India and a strong dealer network

of over 11, 000 dealers across the country.

Says Harish Parekh, manager IT, Goodlass Nerolac Paints,

“Goodlass Nerolac has been using the scanning mail solutions for the fifth

year running. And there has not been any major outbreak at any of the locations

till date.”  Elaborating further

he said, “Since updates are done from our central server at HO, after some

customization, we have achieved better utilization of our VSAT bandwidth, as

data transmission of downloads (new signatures) have been reduced

considerably.”

Mailscan version 4.3 has been deployed across 70 locations,

while eScan has been deployed across 700 nodes of the company. The solution

offers online scanning of incoming and outgoing mails as well as ensures

protection of local data on the hard disk. MailScan for mail server acts like a

content-security and anti-virus software for a company's corporate mail

server. It scans and cleans e-mails that are sent from the company's mail

server to the Internet and those that come into the company's mail server from

the Internet (either via SMTP or POP3).

MailScan is a solution that transparently works on SMTP and

POP3 traffic. It has an e-mail content-security and anti-virus feature that

analyzes e-mails on a real-time basis before they are delivered to the clients

or the servers on your network. 

All processes in the solution are multi-threaded. This

ensures that all e-mails are parallely processed. All types of attachments are

handled by MailScan, including MIME and UU encoded, RFC822 attachments, embedded

e-mails, multipart-mixed and multipart-digest types are also supported.

Meanwhile, eScan Internet Security Suite is a complete one,

which provides essential protection against viruses, objectionable content,

hackers and privacy threats.

The key features of eScan are real time virus scanning of

computer, includes scanning of e-mails and websites, apart from real time

content scanning of all e-mails and websites.

Speaking about the support received till now Parekh said,

“There are two types of support: telephonic and on-site, and both have been

equally good.”
