New Update

Slowdown or not, Rolta had a commendable FY 09, boasting of a growth of 43%,
something that even the giants of the industry would envy. And our survey shows
that the benefits were not restricted to the management alone.

Rolta climbed one step from last year to reach the #3 in 2009, much of the
credit for which is due to the innovative HR practices, that the company went on
to enhance and improve during last year.

Unlike almost all other companies, monetary benefits and salaries do not seem
to be an issue for Rolta employees. On the contrary, Rolta has managed to
perform quite well on both the salary and compensation fronts. What seems like a
big problem, however, is the location. Although Rolta is present in areas like
Jamnagar, Raipur, and Dehradun, employees seem to be highly discontent on the
location front. This can perhaps be attributed to either limited reach or
limited capacity in the regional offices and no offices in most of the tier-2
cities.

And although there is no dearth of money (it stands at #3 in terms of salary
and compensation), what seems to be lacking is passion and an established chain
of communication. Employees have ranked Rolta low in terms of recognition and
scope for innovation. Another area of concern seems to be overseas opportunity.
It has in fact emerged as one of the top-most reasons for employees moving on to
greener pastures. Rolta has scored far below the industry average in terms of
sending employees abroad.

On the gender diversity front too, it has to catch up a lot. With nowhere
close to healthy scores on the percentage of women in the organization, it seems
as if Rolta cant even keep those within its premises too happy. The fair sex
has not been dealt with very fairly, as the scores on flexible work hours,
maternity benefits, company culture, and work-life balance show.

However, the efforts for improvement are on, given the new training modules
and a clear emphasis on domain expertise. But one area that the company needs to
really work upon is communication with its employees.
