Already the most active non-American foreign company in India, Capgemini
added about 4,000 people in India in FY10 and is planning to raise that number
significantly this year as well. However, its offshore ratios for American and
many European clients have already reached optimal points. In terms of India
delivery, apart from manpower growth, Capgemini bought the remaining 49% stake
in its joint venture with Unilever, Capgemini Business Services (India), in
which it had bought a 51% stake in 2006. There were media reports that the
company is in talks with Bank of America to buy its captive BPO unit, with more
than 2,000 employees.
A major milestone was the winning of a 18.5 mn long-term contract to support
UKs National Rail Reservation Systems, where the company is using India based
resources to provide certain services. While it did manage to win a few deals in
domestic market, it was nowhere near what the company had planned for. It is
betting on a few segments like retail, energy and ITeS for its India growth.
