The company slipped from its top position last year to #2. In terms of the HR
rank, the company improved its standing by eight notches. The survey findings
show that iGate employees, despite the challenging economic scenario, managed to
maintain a stress free work environment. This positive atmosphere is attributed
by iGate management to a lot of initiatives taken to make sure that employees
remain insulated from the impact of the current slowdown. Another step was to
increase the frequency of communication with employees, by engaging them and
assuring them of no salary cuts or job losses. This also resulted in iGate being
among companies with the least attrition, standing at an annualized 6.15%, one
of the lowest in the industry. The survey, however, puts the average attrition
rate in the industry among IT companies at 19% in 2009.

Another area of strength was that employees felt that they get adequate
encouragement from the company management and their project managers to take
risks in their work. Training, yet again, emerged as a strong area for iGate
employees. iGate has reinforced its training program to include eight
competencies, which are part of its enhanced performance management system,
apart from increased focus on improving innovation quotient amongst employees.
The idea was to let employees identify opportunities for innovation. The company
focused on improved goal setting by addressing areas where it was not clear.
iGates employee score has also seen an increase due to good score in parameters
like culture, job content, and training

Among the negatives, iGate employees felt that their goals were not clearly
defined and they were not sure what they were expected to do. Another was a lack
of sense of great professional and personal accomplishment from the work they do
and a lack of passion amongst their peers about their work. The companys best
showing was reflected in parameters such as organization culture/work climate,
growth opportunities/career development and technology that one is working on.
The company continues to work on its proven 5C iGate, HR Model of
Compensation, Camaraderie, Culture, Career, and Competency.
