New Update

A high score on industry interface and infrastructure coupled with a good
record on placement could not help NIT Calicut drop seven places. Much of that
has to do with a low score on HR perceptionsomehow the recruiters are still
failing to notice Calicuts USPsas well as less than an average score on its
academic environment. The low rating on academic environment is a bit of a
dampener considering NIT Calicut came up with the School of Nano Science and
Technology this year.

Sponsored projects at this school include a research on nano-fluids in liquid
loops funded to the tune of Rs 20 lakh by the Board of Research in Nuclear
Science; a research in holographic studies in microelectronic devices with a Rs
20 lakh fund from the Department of Science and Technology; as another project
costing Rs.45.18 lakh to research on multifunctional plasmonic nanoparticles and
for targeted drug delivery. The quantum of funding NIT Calicut receives
justifies its high score on the industry interface.

Collaborative ventures with the Georgia Institute of Technology, Rice
University and City University, New York in the US, University of Limerick in
Ireland and Dong-A University in South Korea reinforces NIT Calicuts claim to
fame. There was significant overhauling of the IT infrastructure too during the
yearservers were upgraded, bandwidth increased from 32Mbps to 64 Mbps, UTM
solutions deployed and optical cable laid out.
