Chennai-based Ramco Systems recorded a

turnover of Rs 170 crore for the fiscal 1999-00, a growth of 79% over the

previous year. Established in 1989 as part of the Chennai-based Ramco

Industries, Ramco Systems was hived off last year as an independent company.

This was the most significant happening for the company during the fiscal. Yet

another development was the revamping and renaming of the company’s flagship

ERP product Ramco Marshal as Ramco e.Applications. This marked the transition of

the company’s positioning as an ERP vendor to a complete content-based service

provider for the enterprise.

During

the last year, the company added more products to its portfolio. It now boasts

of e.Applications, Ramco Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Ramco Virtual

Works as its key offerings. The company also added two new products–on web

sales office and web maintenance–to its internet gateway applications suite.

The applications suite integrates a company’s web server with the back-end ERP

server, and can work with products of other ERP companies.

The

company, which has offices in the US, Switzerland, Malaysia and Singapore,

earned Rs 79 crore from exports. Segment wise, Rs 21 crore accrued from packaged

software and Rs 81 crore from services. Agency operations contributed Rs 67

crore in the networking segment and Rs 93 lakh in the peripherals segment.

The

company tied up with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Thailand to develop and sell

products based on its ERP product. It is also planning to increase its focus in

Australia and New Zealand. Besides continuing to offer its e-application family

of enterprise solutions, the company will also provide a pre-packaged software

component for various vertical industry segments such as manufacturing, finance

and insurance in the fiscal 2000-01. The company is also looking at investments

to fuel its marketing drive in the US and Europe. DQ
