One interesting aspect of the convergence in printing technologies is that it is happening at the hardware, software, solutions and at product levels. Some of the developments and innovations are in ensuring user-friendliness, enabling remote access or ‘anytime, anywhere’ print and send options, or digitizing document flow. Many of the vendors are working in their R&D labs to come up with more products and applications to make the concept of convergence in peripherals a reality. DATAQUEST looks at some of these innovations that are making an impact in people’s lives or are helping corporates do business better.

Digital Sender

HP’s latest introduction is the Digital Sender. This product enables users to send paper documents to email, fax, printer or a PC anywhere in the world, using the existing network. The first in the category called HP 9100C, this is intended to replace fax and courier services. It has a control panel with keys to type in email addresses or select them from an address book.

The HP Digital Sender 9100C handles color and black and white files by using compression technology. It uses Adobe software, converts the document into a PDF file and sends it via the internet. This way it ensures universal file access.

Designed for the enterprise and the mobile users, the Digital Sender 9100C helps share information across the world in a cost-effective way by using the advantage of email and internet.
