Tavant Technologies did face rough weather last year because of the crisis in the mortgage industry, however, the company did not lay off people, rather, capacities were added. There was also no freeze on wage hikes or bonuses.
Training is a key focus area at Tavant; its tagline being people, passion and excellence. Similar to last years survey, Tavant is highly rated in terms of quality training provided to its employees. Training programs such as tech led certification/architecture development, technical excellence, train the trainer and customer facing programs were some key initiatives. Employees at the company rigorously undergo twenty hours of learning and training on an annual basis, which is enabled through interactive classroom trainings. Freshers go through a detailed induction called Rookies Induction Program. Merit and promotion hikes are offered yearly and equity hikes semi-annually, depending on market trends and internal mapping and rationalization exercises.
However, lack of a transparent appraisal system and a perception of unfairness were the key pain points for the company. The company has now initiated an action plan to streamline the appraisal process. Goal-setting and evaluation of the top level management at Tavant was one such move which was a very elaborate and detailed exercise with direct top level involvement. A post appraisal survey will be conducted globally to check the effectiveness, sincerity, transparency and improvement areas; and corrective actions will be circulated to key stakeholders. An appraisal overhaul committee, including cross functional representation, was incorporated in July 2010. It will have a proposal ready for the management to act upon in November 2010. Another pain point was gender inclusivitythe action plan here is to encourage recruiting teams and managers to hire more women.
Tavant believes that work should be fun, hence there has always been a focus on ensuring that. Despite recessionary times, spending on fun events and the enthusiasm and participation in those never slowed down. To ensure a congenial work environment, the company also launched Tavant Connect, a program aimed at addressing issues of harassment at workplace. This is addressed through trainings, seminars, discussions and awareness building.
