The form and the look may change, but the PC fundamentally, in terms of the
functionality that we see today, will continue to play an important role. Unless
we have physical connectivity, the applications will not be able to deliver the
desired result. Certainly today in the connected world, most applications are
becoming e-enabled or Internet-enabled.

Impact on economy and industry

PCs have made a major impact on the Indian economy and industry. They have
changed the way we work, think, play and learn. If you go to small towns and
cities in India, you find a lot of institutes that provide training in
technologies that enable the user to get onto PCs. I would say that the first
prime driver for growth of any technology is education. Right steps have been
taken in that regard.

Impact on personal life

Earlier, when I would come home in the evening, I would find my wife glued to
some soap opera. Today, I see her diligently at the PC, trying to get a
connection or ready to tell me what’s happening on Nasdaq or CNN. In terms of
intellect quality within the home, the PC has contributed significantly.
