OTP is Not Coming After TRAI Implemented New Rules

OTP is not coming for users after TRAI implemented the new Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) that was announced in 2018. According to the rules, in case any subscriber receives unsolicited commercial communication after expiry of seven days from the date of his registration in NCPR or DND, they may make a complaint to the service provider through voice call or SMS to toll-free short code 1909 or through DND App within 3 days of receipt of such UCC.

A consumer can block all commercial communications, including calls and SMSs, or can selectively block UCCs from the following categories by registering their preference in the National customer Preference Register (NCPR) also known as DND Registry:

  • Banking, insurance, financial products or credit cards.
  • Real estate.
  • Education
  • Health
  • Consumer goods and automobiles.
  • Communication, broadcasting, entertainment or IT
  • Tourism and leisure.

According to a report on VoicenData, TRAI has defended the implementation of these rules and has laid the onus on telecom companies to sort out the issue for its customers. Consumers are advised to reach out to their telecom service providers on the issue of not getting OTP.
