OTP is Not Coming

OTP is not coming for several users even after a month after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) implemented the new Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) rule. Users claim that they have been facing trouble in carrying out financial transactions, registering grievances, and even while registering on the CoWin app for COVID-19 vaccination.

“This number is registered on my father's name for the COVID-19 test report. On entering the number on the lab report site, OTP is not coming on the mobile. Please help. Unless we get the report, we can't admit him to a hospital. This is urgent,” says a user by the name Chitrranshi A.

“Been trying to make withdrawal since last night and you guys are talking about OTP that you don't send to be imputed. I have waited all night but OTP is not coming. Please treat as urgent,” says another user facing trouble in a financial transaction. Another user by the name of Girish Gopal claims that he is facing trouble while registering for the COVID-19 vaccine. “Unable to log in to the CoWIN App. OTP is not coming. Can you please look into this? Need to schedule slot for 2nd dose for Senior Citizen parents,” he says.

According to the UCC rules implemented by TRAI, which were announced in 2018, in case any subscriber receives unsolicited commercial communication after the expiry of seven days from the date of registration in NCPR or DND, they may make a complaint to the service provider through voice call or SMS to toll-free shortcode 1909 or through DND App within 3 days of receipt of such UCC. A complaint as per this rule can lead to blocking of SMS or voice calls from the following domains: Banking, insurance, financial products or credit cards, real estate, education, health, consumer goods and automobiles., communication, broadcasting, entertainment or IT, and tourism and leisure.
