Orders on Snapdeal services platform quadruple in Unbox Diwali Sale

Snapdeal announced that it has witnessed a huge surge in orders on its newly launched services platform during the Unbox Diwali sale. Movie booking services by Bookmyshow witnessed a 7x surge with the release of MS Dhoni- The Untold Story, last Friday. 1500 people also ordered home cleaning services from Urban Clap on Snapdeal in the last few days. In addition, there was a 9x surge in Uber bookings on Snapdeal.

Speaking about the surge on services platform, Tony Navin, SVP, Partnerships and strategic initiatives at Snapdeal, said, “With festivities kicking in, people are in a mood to indulge on food, movies, travel, personal services, etc. to enjoy this period with their loved ones. We are excited to see customers do more on Snapdeal app via our single-app integrated experience. This is a very promising trend and we are sure this will further increase the repeat usage on Snapdeal app”

Going into the 4th day of the sale, the company also shared some interesting trends. While the new users are logging in from tier 2/3 cities, there was heavy repeat usage from metro cities. Investments in data sciences and personalization technologies, also paid off with 60% increase in conversions, due to personalized screens and recommendations.

The third day of the sale continued to show the upwards trend in fashion, especially sarees, with 7 sarees flying off Snapdeal shelves every minute. The surprise trends included 2 bath and sanitary products sold every minute and 1000 plus (each) digital safes and vacuum cleaners sold in a single day.

Given the festive season, home and kitchen products were expectedly much in demand. The furniture category saw an overall 63x surge in demand, with recliners being amongst the most popular product in the category. Key kitchen appliances like Cookware & Bakeware, Food Processors, Microwave Ovens & OTG appliances, registered a 30x increase. Beyond the home category, yesterday’s sale seemed good for photography enthusiasts with DSLRs being bought at 40x the usual rate of sales. A lot of budding photographers out there!
